This venue also has an excellent range of ceremony and reception options including the low beamed and beautiful Tudor Barn, which at night can be transformed into a romantic haven with its twinkly fairy lights. There is also the stunning rustic garden Summerhouse. This unique seven sided oak framed structure sits seductively over the edge of the lily pond whilst your guests are seated on the bank looking across the water as  you both say your vows. They also have the elegant grade II listed Drawing Room which is perfect for a more intimate affair and last but not least the light and airy space of the Old Dairy. This space lends itself well for anyone looking for a smaller party of guests but still wanting something romantic and original.

How to pick your wedding photographer

Here are our top tips on how to pick your wedding photographer

Choosing your wedding photographer needs some serious planning. When planning your wedding you can directly view items such as your dress, sample the cake, and watch your chosen band in action. But when it comes to your wedding photos, you won’t see what you’re getting until after the event. And you don’t want to have to do it all again to get those special shots!

That means careful research and selectiveness regarding professional skills and artistic style are even more important when selecting your wedding photographer. We’ve put together a few handy tips to help you pick your wedding photographer and to make sure you have amazing photos that capture your day and create lasting memories for you both in years to come.

Pick a style

wedding photographer, wedding day, wedding, bride and groomBefore you start researching local photographers we suggest that you first discuss and decide what style of photography you prefer. These could be candid and spontaneous photos which are not posed. For example it might show the bridesmaids dancing whilst sipping on their champagne and a group of men laughing or joking around by the bar. These types of shots are unplanned so in most cases people will not be staring into the lense. You may feel these types of images are more of a realistic portrayal of your day than the more posed photos. The classic photos tend to be posed shots of the two of you, your friends and family in front of various backdrops. That’s not to say there isn’t room for creativity in this category. Depending on your venue you can have some truly beautiful backdrops so it might be an idea to show your photographer around your chosen venue first so they can get an idea of your requirements.

Research is the key

This is where many people fail. They meet one photographer that they like and just book them before reviewing all the options. But its better to look around first. Start your search by reading reviews from recent newlyweds and browsing local wedding suppliers. Then review potential photographer’s websites to check out photos of other weddings they’ve shot, which will give you an idea of their style and personality. Also check out their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages too if possible. That enables you to read other people’s reviews and check they are positive whilst also seeing how the photographer responds to any comments.

Arrange to meet them

Set up some meetings with your top 3 or 4 photographers that you have researched and make sure when you meet them you explain that you are seeing a few people before you decide to book. First of all check they are free on the date of your wedding and then go on to talk about your venue, wedding style and what you envision for your photos. Its always important to meet your chosen photographer before booking so you can see if you like their personality and view their wedding album portfolio.

Viewing their workwedding photographer, bride and groom, wedding

When reviewing a photographer’s album, look for the key aspects you would like captured. Such as whether they got photos of both the bride and the groom when they locked eyes for the first time? Also look for the thoughtful expressions and shots that show emotion from the day. Do people look relaxed and joyous, not like a deer caught in headlights! Also make sure the images have good lighting and beware of any photos that are poorly focused.

Make sure you get on

Don’t dismiss the fact that you need to like your photographer. Is the photographer excited by your thoughts and description of your wedding? Are they interested and positive when responding to your questions and are they making good suggestions? Any good professional photographer needs to have good social skills and be confident and bold enough to go out hunting for great images. Whilst doing so they need to be able to put you at ease and avoid irritating or pestering guests. Remember they will be shadowing your every move and the more comfortable you are with them the better.

Time to book

Once you have researched your photographers its time to make a decision and book one.  While packages vary, most include about 6 to 12 hours to cover everything from preceremony events (getting ready with your bridesmaids or first-look photos) to the end of the reception. It’s usually better to pay for more coverage if your preference is to have them until the end and there’s a chance you’ll run over (overtime is usually charged at a higher hourly rate). Make sure you go over all the pricing and pay the deposit by credit card incase of any problems nearer the day.

Ask about your rights

Most contracts have a clause that says that the photographer owns the rights to all photos taken at the wedding, even the ones of you. In other words, the wedding photographer can use them promotionally on their website or for ads, etc. That also means you can’t just post the digital proofs they send you—most photographers have a policy that you can only share watermarked images or images with their credit on them. Also, unless you negotiate otherwise, if you want to print the images yourselves or order an album from another source, you’ll have to buy the rights to the images.

We hope these  tips have been useful and wish you lots of luck in your search for finding your wedding photographer.

Top 5 tips to finding your perfect wedding dress

How to find that perfect wedding dress

Shopping for your wedding dress is a once in a life time experience, something that you want to cherish the memories of for a long time. Therefore it certainly isn’t something you want to rush. With so many dress styles and options, the choices can sometimes make it overwhelming so here are a few helpful tips to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable shopping experience.

1. Start your search for your dress about 8 months to a year before the big day. Designer gowns should really be ordered six to nine months in advance to ensure there is enough time for delivery and any alterations. If you want to customize your dress by adding jewels or lace or by modifying the neckline or train, it can take even longer, so plan accordingly.

2. Come up with a realistic budget and factor in any alterations. Some bridal shops cap their alterations price at a certain amount but others will charge a flat fee. Remember that most salons will ask for 50% of the cost upfront. We would advise to pay by credit card so you have a record of the payment incase any problems arise. Always plan ahead so you know your realistic budget and can ensure you are looking only at gowns in this price range.  Brides are devastated when they find ‘The One’ but don’t have the available funds to purchase the dress, which risks their gown being discontinued or sold to someone else.wedding dress

3. Before going shopping, familiarise yourself with the different styles of dresses by looking in magazines and perhaps starting a scrap book of your likes and dislike. But remember not to entirely disregard a style until you have tried it on. There are 6 main styles for wedding gowns which are:

  • Ball gown
  • Empire
  • A-line
  • Sheath
  • Fit-and-flare
  • Mermaid

Try on one of each the first time you go shopping for your gown so that you can decide which ones suit you the most and narrow down your search.

4. Limit the amount of people you decide to take on your shopping trip. Although it might be tempting to ask everyone on what will be the most important shopping trip of your life, the more people you invite, the greater the chance that you’ll end up confused. Bridal consultants advise selecting up to 3 close friends or relatives to accompany you to gown appointments, people who are honest and have your best interest at heart.

5.Test how comfortable your gown is by moving around in it, sit down, dance, and walk up and down the shop. Remember you will be wearing this dress all day and you want to feel amazing and beautiful. It should fit you perfectly and feel comfortable to wear. If you have to keep pulling up the cleavage or the dress is so tight you can’t breathe then ditch that style and move on to the next. Don’t worry or rush the process, you will know when you find the one; go with your gut instinct. Remember it’s your day and your dress!

We hope these wedding dress tips have been useful and wish you lots of luck in your search for your dream dress.

Top 5 tips on choosing your wedding theme

Why should you choose a wedding theme?

Why do you need a wedding theme? A wedding theme will tie together the personal elements of your wedding and create a mood for your loved ones that illustrates who you and your partner are. This could be dictated by something as simple as a colour you both love, a place, an era or perhaps just the venue’s own style.  Here are are some top tips to help you find the perfect wedding theme for your big day.

The Venue

Most likely your choice of venue is going to be a reflection of you and your partner so you may find that you can use the venue to help you with your theme. For example if you have opted for a beach wedding you may want to have shells, sand and pebble decorations. There are so many wonderful ideas that you can discover with some research.

wedding theme, wedding planning, wedding bandAbout you

It’s important to sit down together and discuss words and key aspects that define you as a couple. Perhaps places you have traveled together, exploring activities that you both enjoy, cultures you both love, colours and styles. These sorts of touches and personal thoughts can really help you create a individual theme that captures your life together.

Pinterest

If you haven’t used it before then now is an ideal time to try using Pinterest. It’s a great visual bookmarking tool that helps you discover and save creative ideas such as beautiful images, fashion styles, videos and tips. You can build up a catalogue of your interests and use them to help you decide on your theme.

Theme the band

So you have spent ages planning your big day and you’ve chosen that special shade of green for the bridesmaid dresses and ties for the men which then matches the beautiful bows on the reception hall chairs. Why not ask your evening entertainment to incorporate the colour into their look too? Just think how professional and streamlined your big day will be then. Not all wedding bands will offer this service but some will. We at the Right Hook do and we find that couple really appreciate that attention to detail.

Ask for help

Don’t be afraid to include friends in your decisions or have conversations with the decoratively gifted members of your family. After all you have a lot to plan and sometimes it can be overwhelming! For this reason it can be great to have advice and help from others who may give you fresh ideas you haven’t even thought of. Always be opened minded and you will have no end of creative inputs from people.

We hope these wedding planning tips have been useful.

Top 5 tips for finding the perfect wedding venue

One of the first things you’ll think about after you’ve gotten engaged is finding your wedding venue. Venue finding can be a very time consuming exercise. It is never too early to start looking for a suitable venue and they get booked up in advance so its a good idea to start thinking about this as soon as possible.

Research the size of the venue

It sounds obvious but make sure the reception room is large enough to accommodate the number of people on your guest list, most venues have a capacity limit so make sure you ask this when you visit. The space may look enormous when it’s empty, but wedding essentials—tables, chairs, a buffet, a bar, the band or DJ setup, the dance floor—can take up a lot of space. Not to mention your guests will need some elbow room. Even if you choose an outdoor site, you’ll need ample room on the lawn and ask about access to all areas as some venues have certain areas shut off. There should be logical places within the space where guests can eat, drink, talk and dance, try to imagine the space on your big day.

Lighting

Light can make—or break—the mood and the space. If you’re marrying during the day, make sure your hall has plenty of windows. Who wants to spend six hours in a dark room when the sun is shining? If it’s an evening affair, make sure the room’s not too dim—or that the lighting can be controlled for the big entrance, dinner and dancing. If you’re marrying outdoors, say, at dusk, will you be able to set up candles if necessary? Visit the site at the same time of day that you’ve chosen for your wedding. Even if the space looks romantic by candlelight, you may be surprised by the sight of that outdated carpet during the day. You’ll also miss a chance to see how sunlight streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows completely transforms the room, if you only check it out in the evening.

The Right Colour

If you’re considering a certain theme or colour for your wedding party say, a modern lounge-style cocktail party reception done in black and red—those dated antique curtains are really going to wreck the effect. The venue doesn’t have to be done in the exact colours as your planned decorations, but the walls, carpets, chairs and curtains shouldn’t drastically clash or conflict with your party’s mood or theme. If you want a spring wedding brunch, look for a space that has pastel colours or floral motifs. For a classic wedding, consider an elegant room done in natural colours. Look into a wedding organiser who can assist you with ideas on how to make your venue look spectacular.

Good Acoustics

If the place is too echoey, it could give some weird reverb to the band, not to mention make it difficult for guests to hear one another talking. A tile or wood floor will amplify sounds while a thick carpet will tend to muffle them. Check out the room’s sound quality during an event or ask the venue what sort of bands or music they have had there and tailor your music to the venue  but speak to the band as well because usually they are used to playing a wide range and venues and will ensure you get a good sound on the day.

Plenty of Parking

Make sure the site is near a good car park, garage or big, empty street where it’s legal (and safe!) to park. If parking is a problem, look for other ways to get everyone to the party. Can a shuttle bus or vans take guests from the ceremony to the reception? Inadequate parking isn’t necessarily a deal breaker, but it may mean spending more time and money to figure out a viable transportation alternative.

If you still haven’t booked your wedding band The Right Hook are one of the UK’s most popular party bands who have performed at hundreds of weddings. They can also supply the drinks reception music whether it’s a jazz band, pianist, solo singer or acoustic duo. We will work with you to make sure the entertainment is exactly how you imagined it would be. Contact Us  today for more information or for a no obligation quote from the Right Hook Party Band.
