Top tips for the best wedding entertainment

Here are our ideas for the best wedding entertainment

Do you want the best wedding entertainment of 2018? Are you looking for some inspiration? Look no further and read our top tips and ideas for alternative wedding entertainment ideas.

Choosing the perfect wedding entertainment for your big day can be a big task. Catering for everyone’s diverse tastes in music and ensuring that everyone is happy can be daunting. A lot of people worry that if they have classical music or a jazz band it won’t be as current and up to date as a DJ who will be blasting out all the latest hits. However why stick to the same old boring clichés when there are so many alternative entertainment options available that will make your wedding the most talked about event of the year!wedding entertainment, wedding bands, best wedding band

Covers Band with a twist

One of the best things about having a live band is that the personalities and vibrancy of each band member comes out in their performance. A good band will encourage the guests to join in and get on the dance floor. Their  infectious vibrant energy will be felt by everyone in the room.

However whilst the traditional covers band is still great for wedding entertainment, if you want to add a little exotic twist to your day why not look into a samba or salsa band? The vibrant carnival music will surely get the most reserved guests shaking their hips!

Be your own DJ

A lot of people decide to have a DJ as it’s cheaper than a band and then they have the reassurance that there will be music for all ages. But if you are still hoping to have a band but would like a DJ as well. You can ask your band if they also have a DJ option. A lot of professional wedding bands will have that service so that they play music in the breaks and after the band have finished playing. We at the Right Hook provide this service as standard. But failing that why not mix your own wedding songs? If you have an iPod or iPad you can decide which songs you would to be played and ask a close friend or family member to be in charge of this and click play once the band have finished. Technology has come a long way in recent years and enables us to become our own DJ if we want to.

If you love Jazz

If you are a jazz lover and have always dreamed of having a jazz band at your wedding but you feel that it’s just not the right music for the whole day. Then why not have a jazz band for the early part of the reception for a short session when guests arrive after the ceremony. Perhaps playing on the lawn. Just imagine the sound of the saxophone drifting on the summer breeze whilst you sip on your champagne with your guests. Again you may find your wedding band of choice can cater for this extra perk for a smaller fee than hiring a full jazz band. A lot of musicians have connections or even play multiple instruments, its always best to ask. Once again, the Right Hook provide this option for a small fee because they are already on site for the evening performance.

How to keep the guests happy

In recent years we have seen more and more humorous and quirky wedding entertainment ideas that create happy and fun memories for everyowedding entertainment, wedding bands, best wedding bandne. Here are few ideas you could incorporate into your big day.

Casino Themed Night

Why not add some class and glamour to the reception and hire blackjack and roulette tables allowing guests to try their luck. Having some casino fun is an ideal way for guests to come together and break the ice at the tables. By the end of the evening everyone should be more familiar and ready to hit the dance floor.

Funny Photo Booth

The idea of a photo booth allows your guests to come together and make new friends and take some silly photos of one another. There are usually props and funny dressing up clothes, plus a professional photographer who will be snapping away ensuing you are all having a great time. Afterwards you will all have some hilarious memories to smile fondly at.

Singing Waiters

A waiter’s main job is to ensure that all the guests have full glasses and their food on time but why not add a few special waiters to bring some theatrical fun to your day. Look for catering by a company who offer singing waiters, they will provide guests with an unexpected but memorable moment when they burst into song.

Garden Gameswedding entertainment, wedding bands, best wedding band

This is a simple and great way to keep your guests entertained. But it is best planned for a summer wedding where you can be sure of some nice weather. Some venues already offer this option in their package. Such as giant Jenga ,Chess or Connect Four. But we find old classic garden gardens such as croquet or cricket are also a fab way to pass the time too. You can bring your own games to the venue if they at not already provided.

Try not to worry!! Your wedding is one of the biggest events in your life and you wouldn’t be normal if you didn’t feel stressed or anxious about the big day. But remember it’s is going to be amazing, so try to enjoy everything because you’ll regret if you don’t.

How to pick your wedding photographer

Here are our top tips on how to pick your wedding photographer

Choosing your wedding photographer needs some serious planning. When planning your wedding you can directly view items such as your dress, sample the cake, and watch your chosen band in action. But when it comes to your wedding photos, you won’t see what you’re getting until after the event. And you don’t want to have to do it all again to get those special shots!

That means careful research and selectiveness regarding professional skills and artistic style are even more important when selecting your wedding photographer. We’ve put together a few handy tips to help you pick your wedding photographer and to make sure you have amazing photos that capture your day and create lasting memories for you both in years to come.

Pick a style

wedding photographer, wedding day, wedding, bride and groomBefore you start researching local photographers we suggest that you first discuss and decide what style of photography you prefer. These could be candid and spontaneous photos which are not posed. For example it might show the bridesmaids dancing whilst sipping on their champagne and a group of men laughing or joking around by the bar. These types of shots are unplanned so in most cases people will not be staring into the lense. You may feel these types of images are more of a realistic portrayal of your day than the more posed photos. The classic photos tend to be posed shots of the two of you, your friends and family in front of various backdrops. That’s not to say there isn’t room for creativity in this category. Depending on your venue you can have some truly beautiful backdrops so it might be an idea to show your photographer around your chosen venue first so they can get an idea of your requirements.

Research is the key

This is where many people fail. They meet one photographer that they like and just book them before reviewing all the options. But its better to look around first. Start your search by reading reviews from recent newlyweds and browsing local wedding suppliers. Then review potential photographer’s websites to check out photos of other weddings they’ve shot, which will give you an idea of their style and personality. Also check out their Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages too if possible. That enables you to read other people’s reviews and check they are positive whilst also seeing how the photographer responds to any comments.

Arrange to meet them

Set up some meetings with your top 3 or 4 photographers that you have researched and make sure when you meet them you explain that you are seeing a few people before you decide to book. First of all check they are free on the date of your wedding and then go on to talk about your venue, wedding style and what you envision for your photos. Its always important to meet your chosen photographer before booking so you can see if you like their personality and view their wedding album portfolio.

Viewing their workwedding photographer, bride and groom, wedding

When reviewing a photographer’s album, look for the key aspects you would like captured. Such as whether they got photos of both the bride and the groom when they locked eyes for the first time? Also look for the thoughtful expressions and shots that show emotion from the day. Do people look relaxed and joyous, not like a deer caught in headlights! Also make sure the images have good lighting and beware of any photos that are poorly focused.

Make sure you get on

Don’t dismiss the fact that you need to like your photographer. Is the photographer excited by your thoughts and description of your wedding? Are they interested and positive when responding to your questions and are they making good suggestions? Any good professional photographer needs to have good social skills and be confident and bold enough to go out hunting for great images. Whilst doing so they need to be able to put you at ease and avoid irritating or pestering guests. Remember they will be shadowing your every move and the more comfortable you are with them the better.

Time to book

Once you have researched your photographers its time to make a decision and book one.  While packages vary, most include about 6 to 12 hours to cover everything from preceremony events (getting ready with your bridesmaids or first-look photos) to the end of the reception. It’s usually better to pay for more coverage if your preference is to have them until the end and there’s a chance you’ll run over (overtime is usually charged at a higher hourly rate). Make sure you go over all the pricing and pay the deposit by credit card incase of any problems nearer the day.

Ask about your rights

Most contracts have a clause that says that the photographer owns the rights to all photos taken at the wedding, even the ones of you. In other words, the wedding photographer can use them promotionally on their website or for ads, etc. That also means you can’t just post the digital proofs they send you—most photographers have a policy that you can only share watermarked images or images with their credit on them. Also, unless you negotiate otherwise, if you want to print the images yourselves or order an album from another source, you’ll have to buy the rights to the images.

We hope these  tips have been useful and wish you lots of luck in your search for finding your wedding photographer.

Wedding at Tithe Barn, Loseley Park

Our live band the Right Hook had a great time playing at Tithe Barn on the Loseley Park Estate. Loseley Park House is situated in 1,400 acres of stunning countryside, just 3 miles out of Guildford in Surrey. The 17th century Tithe Barn which is part of the estate once stored tithes (tax in the form of grain) paid by medieval farmers. It now forms a spectacular and spacious venue with original oak beams that make it particularly intimate, yet it can still comfortably accommodate 140 guests.

Features of Loseley Park, Tithe Barn

Tithe Barn and Loseley House are both highly sought after venues for their corporate event facilities, civil weddings and even as a filming location. If Loseley House could impress royalty back in the day then it’s no surprise it is so popular in modern times for corporate functions and private parties. It has such a beautiful backdrop and the Tithe Barn with its ancient oak beams is the perfect place to hold a wedding reception.

During the summer, drinks receptions can be held in the Walled Garden prior to dining in the Tithe Barn. The Catering at Loseley Park is run by professional staff and maintained to the highest standards by Caper and Berry who serve mouth watering food for all your guests to enjoy. This Elizabethan venue really pulls out all the stops and is sure to impress.

As we have performed here before we are familiar with the working practices in an old venue, especially when there are noise limitations in place. This means that we can put on a great, exciting show within the rules of the venue.

If you are planning a wedding at Tithe Barns, or any other wedding venue in the Surrey area, then get in contact to book a top class wedding band along with your top class wedding venue and make it a wedding no one will forget!
